Designer's Spotlight: Lanvin

Subsequently critic's favorite and very high on my hot designers' list, Lanvin is one the most quietly slept yet incredibly fabulous lines of the fashion world. Lanvin is the oldest French fashion house still in operation. Founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889, Lanvin built a name with ultrafeminine clothing as well as popular fragrances. The company has seen turbulent years of uncertainty, due to shuffles of ownership, it has remained present but failed to connect with the world. The entrance of Alber Elbaz in 2001 as the designer for the house revived Lanvin and helped the house find financial and critical success. With each collection, Elbaz seems to reinvent himself and inspire others effortlessly. Lanvin has become extremely popular and in highly demanded, our First Lady Michelle Obama was photographed wearing a pair of Lanvin sneakers in May 2009 which solidified Lanvin a spot in our history books. Other celebrities such as Nicole Kidman, Jay-Z, Kate Moss, and Jenifer Aniston are also known to be fans of Lanvin. However one of the greatest things about the Lanvin house is that the everyday fashionista also has access to the fabulous pieces created. Lanvin's biggest wholesale customer in the US is Barney's New York making it available to us all. Along with Barney's; Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Net-A-Porter.com all carry Lanvin. Here's a look at why this is my favorite designer right now.
